About Us

 Niall McCarten

At age 10, Niall did close-up photography of  insectivorous plants using his father's Rolleiflex and a macro adapter.    At the same time, he began doing time-lapse filming of plants using the family 8mm Kodak movie camera.   At age 18 he owned his own SLR which traveled with him to Mexico and Kenya.   Twenty plus years later and several SLR cameras later he has photographed plants, wildlife, landscapes, and underwater in the United States, Mexico, South and Central America, Kenya, Tanzania, and the Caribbean.

Photography has been an important part of Niall's interest in biology and has played an important role in his research on plants.   Following completion of a Ph.D. in botany, Niall has continued and expanded his interest in photography and filming.   In addition to his years of photographic experimentation, Niall also received important training from workshops conducted in the mid 1980's by the internationally recognized photographer George Lepp.  The challenges of photographing and video taping wildlife and documenting interesting habitats have led to an extensive collection of slides and video.  His recent expansion into commercial photography is closely linked to his interest in sharing years of travel and experiences with others.

Niall's equipment includes Nikon F100 & F4 bodies , a range of Nikon lenses and the incredible SB28 flash which he uses with the Better Beamer flash extender.   He uses a Nikonos V for underwater photos.  His video equipment is all digital with the Sony DSR200A combined with Century telephoto and wide-angle lenses.

Roxanne Bittman

In her late teens, Roxanne 's first nature photography was of foxes and landscapes in Norway.  Her love of photography certainly started then, but has grown tremendously since that time.

Roxanne's interest in nature included extensive research on plants culminating in obtaining a Masters degree in botany.   Macro photography of plants has been a large part of her photographic background.   As a professional biologist, she has regularly used her photographic talents to document rare and endangered plants and unusual habitats.

More recently, she has expanded her photographic interests to include mammals, birds, and landscapes in North America as well as East Africa and Central and South America.  Roxanne's appreciation of nature and  biological training has resulted in her using photography to not only capture plants and animals in their natural setting, but to attempt to capture their great natural beauty and elegance.

Roxanne uses Nikon equipment with a Nikon N90S as her primary camera body.  She also uses an array of zoom and fixed focal length lenses.   Roxanne also has enjoyed using the Nikon SB28 flash with the Better Beamer.
